Fat Transfer

Fat Transfer

Ever wish that you could transfer fat from one part of your body, which has a bit too much, to another part of your body, which could use plumping? At The Institute for Plastic Surgery, we can do that for you.

Our expert surgeons can transfer fat from one part of your body and inject it into a more desirable area, such as your cheeks, buttocks, breasts, facial creases, or aging and wrinkled hands. In your face, this result is similar to a dermafiller, often lasting years. This is a popular choice for chin enhancement.

Who is it for?

Anyone who is generally healthy and has some body fat to spare.

What is treatment like?

Fat will be harvested using a local anesthetic, usually from your abdomen, through a small incision in your belly-button. The fat is spun in a centrifuge, to clean it and separate damaged cells. Then the fat is injected into your target areas using special equipment. If you seek significant enlargement, you may have to undergo multiple treatments. You may need a day to a week of downtime, depending on your particular procedure.

What are the risks?

A small amount of the transferred fat may be absorbed back into your body. Your surgeon will discuss all the risks with you prior to your procedure. Avoid Advil, aspirin, or other blood thinners for two weeks before and after surgery, to prevent bleeding and lessen bruising.

What are the results?

In about three weeks, the swelling and any bruising will subside, and the areas that received the fat transfer should be softer, smoother, and refreshed.
