Pulsed Dye Laser

Pulsed Dye Laser

Our Vbeam Perfecta or Vbeam Prima treatments use a Pulsed Dye Laser, also known as vascular lasers, to gently but effectively treat rosacea and other conditions like spider veins, broken capillaries, warts, stretch marks, and birthmarks. It’s one of the best lasers for rosacea treatment, relieving red, discolored skin. It is so mild that it can even be used on babies; this treatment targets superficial blood vessels, leaving the surrounding tissue intact. The body then reabsorbs the damaged vessel, redirecting blood flow to a deeper, less visible one.

Our Pulsed Dye Laser services are available at The Institute of Plastic Surgery in Altamonte Springs, Winter Park East, Ormond Beach, and at our New Smyrna Beach locations.

Who is it for?

Vbeam Perfecta and Vbeam Prima is for almost any patient who wants to lessen red discoloration somewhere on their body. It’s even considered safe for lessening facial birthmarks on babies and for general use on patients with dark skin. It’s not recommended for pregnant patients, due to a lack of clinical studies examining the effects on a fetus.

What is treatment like?

There will be a slight “snapping” as the laser enters the skin, but discomfort (and the likelihood of burning) are greatly reduced by the rapid blast of a cooling agent, sprayed prior to each laser firing. You may have slight redness or swelling, but you will be able to return to normal activities and resume wearing makeup immediately after treatment. Be sure to protect your skin with a strong sunscreen, or better yet, avoid the sun throughout your treatment.

What are the results?

The results are a dramatic lightening of red stains on your skin, usually in three sessions or more. Some results may be visible immediately, but the skin can take up to a month to heal enough to show full results. Results may be permanent, depending on the condition being treated. Often, spider veins and broken capillaries clear entirely, but conditions such as rosacea and port wine birthmarks may recur and require future treatment. Our clinics in Daytona Beach, Clermont, Orlando, and Altamonte Springs offer ongoing support to help you maintain your results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most patients need three or more sessions of laser for rosacea treatment spaced four to six weeks apart. Since rosacea is a chronic condition, periodic maintenance treatments may be recommended to manage recurring redness and vascular flare-ups over time.

PDL is considered among the best lasers for rosacea treatment because it precisely targets oxyhemoglobin in dilated vessels without harming surrounding tissue, producing significant visible clearing with a very low risk of scarring or skin damage.

Our Pulsed Dye Laser addresses rosacea, spider veins, broken capillaries, stretch marks, warts, and birthmarks. The laser collapses targeted blood vessels, which the body then naturally absorbs and redirects over the following weeks.

PDL technology operates at a 595nm wavelength specifically calibrated to target hemoglobin in blood vessels. This precision makes it more selective and safer for surrounding tissue compared to broader-spectrum devices that carry higher risks of collateral thermal injury.

Yes, vascular lasers like Vbeam can be used safely on various skin tones, including darker complexions. Treatment parameters are carefully calibrated for each patient by our physicians, and a pre-treatment consultation is strongly recommended to confirm appropriate settings and minimize risk.

PDL is most effective on red or purple stretch marks, where active vascularity gives the laser a clear target. Older, white, or silver stretch marks may respond better to alternative treatments such as fractional lasers or microneedling.

Some patients experience temporary purpura, or bruising, which typically resolves within one to two weeks. Our team can adjust laser settings to reduce this effect, especially for patients who have social or professional commitments shortly after treatment.

Yes, PDL is one of the most established treatments for port wine stains and is considered safe for patients of all ages. While complete clearance may not always be possible, significant lightening is commonly achieved over a series of sessions.

Yes, PDL works well as part of a comprehensive rosacea management strategy. Our physicians may recommend pairing it with prescription topicals, lifestyle adjustments, and sun protection protocols to achieve better redness control between and after laser sessions.

Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and moisturizer, apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher daily, and avoid hot environments, saunas, and strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours. These steps help minimize flushing and support faster skin recovery.
